Yesterday’s protest at the London Heathrow airport attracted thousands of individuals against the proposed airport expansion.
The proposal for a third runway at the airport has attracted criticism and concern since the plans were unveiled, and this protest is one of the many which have taken place since the plans were unveiled in November of last year.
It was estimated that around 3,000 protesters joined a march from Hatton Cross to Sipson, which is the village which would be destroyed if the plans were to go ahead.
After the march, the protesters gathered in a field close to the Heathrow airport and began to form a human chain of words which could read “NO” from the air.
Campaigners are worried of the impact on the local area, environmental issues, and the safety of surrounding developments and homes.
Many businesses believe the airport expansion is vital for future economic growth, and feel that London could be left behind in comparison with other major European countries who already have the capacity to support future major growth.
